Question:

Postpartum Anxiety and nervous tics and epidural!?

I have nervous tics during this postpartum period. My child is 5 months. I had a major anxiety attack because I couldn't feel my legs during the epidural. I continue to have anxiety attacks. Do other women out there experience nervous habits or tics as a result of anxiety attacks or stress. I don't have tourettes or anything. How long did it take you to get over anxiety attacks during postpartum and what helped?

  1. Hi there - just want to let you know that i've suffered with huge anxiety and panic attacks since my 3rd son (didn't happen with the first two) was 5 weeks old.  I've had dizziness, weakness in arms and legs, and I twitch all over.  Both my GP and Neurologist have confirmed its an anxious type of postpartum depression and the symptoms manifest in physical ways when you panic - i.e. you prepare for the fight or flight response everytime you have a panic attack and adreneline surges through your body with no where to go or not getting burnt off resulting in some weird physical symptoms.  My son is 4 months now and i've been on anti-d's for a month and have noticed the weakness in my arms and legs and also the dizzy spells have subsided.  I dont have the burning sensation I was getting through my body either.  I'm still twitching at night a bit though, but it seems this symptom can take a bit of time to go.  Anyway, to all you postpartum twitchy Mums out there (and there seem to be lots), be reassured (i'm saying this even though I still have tons of anxiety!) that its something to do with hormones, and horrible anxiety - not something horribly sinister.  Peace to you all xoxo
