Question:

Postpartum Period?

I nursed my first baby until he was about 9 months old. I got my period when he was 7 months old. I had a baby not quite two months ago, and I'm nursing her, but I think I got my period already. Has anyone else (in a similar circumstance) had this happen so early? And, at the risk of sounding like a moron, if I get my period, that means I'll ovulate, right? Meaning, I can get pregnant? And, if I do get pregnant, how will that affect nursing my baby now?

  1. Yes it's normal. I started mine around 2 months while nursing too and yes you can get pregnant. I suggest using some type of birth control if you don't plan on having another child in the near future. Your milk supply may decrease or change in taste for the baby but there shouldn't be any problems nursing if you become pregnant, however you should consult your doctor just in case.

  2. Yes, you can get your period while nursing.  And you're right in that that can mean that you're ovulating.  It's also important to remember that nursing is not an effective form of birth control.  Since you ovulate BEFORE your period, you will not know when that process re-starts.  If you're concerned about birth control while nursing, you can use an estrogen-free pill (like the minipill) or an IUD.  Both are safe for nursing mothers and should not affect your supply.

If you are pregnant and still nursing your baby, your doctor will give you good guidelines on calorie intake in order to keep both of your little ones healthy.  Good luck!

  3. I was always under the understanding that you can get pregnant during that time even without a period!!! i was told it is NOT A VERY GOOD form of birth control, it lowers your risks, but is not a very good form.......so.......

I got a very irregular period with my 2nd daughter and was nursing! It won't affect your baby!

And to the first comment...don't listen to them...

Have as many kids as you can take care of!

Yes, there are alot of people on the earth, but its not gonna change if YOU only have 2 and everyone else keeps getting pregnant!!! It would take thousands of people for it to make that big of a change!

  4. I got my period maybe 2 months after I had my daughter and I was nursing her. You are right that since you have your period, it does mean that you are probably ovulating. It's best to get on birth control right away. I waited too long and ended up with my son. He's my little miracle!

  5. I dont know if thats normal (about the period) BUT... I think you shouldn´t get pregnat in these months... (Or ever) we are a lot on the planet already. 2 kids is all you need.
