Question:

Postpartum bleeding... how much longer will it last?

Might be TMI for some, but just need to know. I had my daughter 7 weeks ago and the bleeding/spotting hasn't stopped. I bled a lot the first first days, and since then its just been a steady light bleeding/spotting, and brown. Did anyone else bleed longer than 6 weeks? Should I consult my doctor? There hasn't been any pain or changes in the blood or flow... what should I do?

  1. I also had my daughter 7 weeks ago (June 23) but I stopped bleeding a while ago.. maybe about 4 weeks ago. I  a huge laseration inside (not sure where) from pushing (as my dr said) & had to be put to sleep to be stitched. I've even gone to starting my period like normal this week. I would definitely talk to your doctor

  2. It could be nothing but I would go see the doctor just in case I stopped after 3 to 4 wks but i had a C- section. Did you have your 6wk postpartum check? If not i think you should so they can check if your uterus shrunk or at least started to return to normal size.

But on another note CONGRATS on the new Baby!!!!!!!!!

  3. I bled until I was about 4 weeks. And then I had my first period at about 6 weeks. Shouldnt be a big deal but you can ask your doctor to be sure.

  4. It could be nothing, it could be serious. You should consult your doctor if you're concerned. After I gave birth, I stopped bleeding completely around 5 weeks pp.

  5. Baby 1 - 12 weeks! Baby 2 - 3 weeks.

It can vary massively, I think 6 weeks is about average. It's also possible if you're not breast feeding for the first period to run into the PP bleeding, but you'd notice a change if that were the case. If you're not in pain and it seems like its old blood, I'd leave it another couple of weeks before checking with your doctor.

  6. 6 weeks is the average, so going more or less than that is OK! Some women go as long as 8 wks.

If you are feeling like you are bleeding "too much" call your dr.
