Question:

Postpartum support belts--nice or waste of money? (Cesarean moms)?

I had an emergency Cesarean this weekend, and I'm totally unprepared to care for myself after surgery. The incision is driving me crazy, and I wonder if those big elastic belts that they sell at BRU are nice to use or if they are just a waste of money.

Any other tricks for keeping the incision comfortable and healthy? I'm using arnica gel now for the swelling and itching.

  1. Personally, i just washed it every day with soap and water and then left it to heal by itself. I would ditch the idea of the support belt...it seems unnessesary to me.

I was totally unprepared too as i also had an emergency c-section. But sure enough it wont be long until the incision just wont bother you anymore, and just the numbness....which i find equally annoying!! Give it a couple of weeks.

    Congrats x

  2. The hospital gave me a  binder and that helped me alot. I used for a few days after I was home and the whole time at the hospital.

  3. They are worth the money...but I am surprised the hospital did not give you one.  I did not use anything on my incision, but arnica will keep it from bruising and help it to heal.  Just keep it clean.

  4. i had my baby boy by c-section 4 weeks ago today and I'm using the support belt. I like how it makes me look skinny again. LOL. I put a piece of fabric like a old t shirt cut in a large piece and have it between me and the belt.I just washed the incision every day 2 times a day or anytime i was sweating badly. good luck and congrats on the little one

  5. I loved my belly belt. It felt better when I got up from sitting and laying down. It also made my stomach flatter which I liked. I used it for about the first month just cause it felt good to have support there after a c-sect.
