Question:

Postpartum unusual symptoms....need insight.?

I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl a week ago (6 days to be exact) and now I have diarrhea. Is this a normal postpartum symptom? I do not have a fever and I am only having minimal cramping. Everything else is an expected symptom but I am unsure if diarrhea is something that should be a concern since I am caring for a little one.Thank you for your help!

  1. This is normal. Your body was cramped with the baby inside. Your body is finally returning back to your old self again. Things are relaxing and shifting back into place. Try putting some fiber in your body. Yes I know this is supposed to help things "move" however if your fiber is imbalanced it can make you go as well.

If you are breastfeeding try gatorade to replace the electrolytes in your body, bananas help as does cheeses will help stop you up. However do not do the cheese thing if you are lactose intolerant.

If you are NOT breast feeding  then immodium is ok. Try 2 tabs after the first loose stool then one every 2 hrs after (if diarrehea is still a problem  up to 4-5 per day.

    Good Luck

  2. i wouldnt worry about it you just gave birth! your body is still trying to make sence of what it went thru! if it lasts more than a few days call your doctor to get some med that might help, other than that just drink plenty of water and congrats on your new little bundle of joy!

  3. Nothing to worry about. Here are some natural remedies for it though. Maybe you can find some other information on here that may prove useful to you as well. Congratulations on your new baby girl! What did you name her?

  4. No concern, just keep it all clean.

  5. Your body is still going through major crazy changes now...I wouldn't worry unless it lasts more than a few days. Try some Immodium pills, they'll stop you up.

    Congratulations on the baby =)

  6. Hi ,its better than being constipated ...the cramps are after birth pains and normal ,the more you have the quicker you will get back to normal ..the diarrhea is likely to be caused by them too ,be jarful what you take for it if breast feeding ...If it keeps up see a doctor .

  7. Its not related to postpartum per se but hormonal changes can cause diarrhea. The only thing you need to look out for is not getting dehydrated. It will slow your breast milk production so drink plenty of water. You could also take your prenatal vitamins. They are recommended anyway and the iron will constipate you a little.

  8. Diarrhea is a common symptom and nothing to worry about.  If you need relief take some Peptol Bismol

  9. This sounds normal. Your hormones are running high right now and adjusting to being post partum. Congrats on your little blessing!
