Postponed 85th New York Golden Glove Hillburn bouts to take place on January 28, 2012 – Boxing news
The management of New York Golden Glove boxing tourney has decided to postpone Saturday January 21, 2012, bouts until Saturday January 28.
The 85th New York Golden Glove tourney was initially decided to be held on the 21st, however due to harsh weather conditions the program has been shifted to the 28th.
The competition will take place at the same venue, Joseph T. St. Lawrence Community, Heath and Sports Center with the same schedule consisting of six weeks of preliminary bouts. The postponed gathering was the third of the 1st week.
The first two gatherings were arranged at the BB Kings Club and Electric Industry on January 19 and 20 respectively. By the end of the sixth week, a total of 24 initial rounds or gatherings would have taken place as per the pre-determined schedule. The seventh
week, the quarterfinals, will kick off from February 28 and will continue until March 9, unless there is a change in plan by the organisers and management. The semi-finals will start from March 10, whereas the finals will be held on March 29 and 30.
Winners of these prelims will move to the quarterfinals, facing fiercer competition.
The prelims, which will end on February 24, are being held in the loving memory of the late Suffern High School principal Patrick Faherty. Phil Tisi, Supervisor of the Town Ramapo, while sharing further details, said that this was the second time they were
dedicating the show to Faherty, since he was a guy who was and still is loved by all, and he died a very painful death being a leukaemia patient.
According to the details put forth to the media, sponsors for the postponed show are BHG Rand Realty, Ireland’s 32, Pannone Lopes Devereaux & West LLC, the Tisi family, New York Daily News and Town of Ramapo.
Adult tickets are available at a price of $20, whereas a discount of $10 is available for children of age 14 and below. Tickets for senior citizens are being offered at a price of $10.
The bouts will be held in the following weight categories 114, 123, 132, 141, 152, 165, 178, 201, and 201-plus pounds normally the heavyweight category. The women’s bouts will include weights of 106, 112, 119, 125, 132, 141, 152, 165, 176, 176-plus pounds
that is the heavyweight division.
