Question:

Postponing Jury Duty?

I recieved a summons to appear as a petit juror next week. I don't mind serving (I know it's imortant and is my duty), but I had made plans to be out of town on the day that I am summoned for. Is there any way that I can get my jury duty deffered to a later date? Once again, I'm not looking to avoid it, or go in there and act like a racist bufoon, lie, or do anything borderline illegal to get out of it, I just need to get it pushed back.

  1. You can postpone for up to 6 months later.  Make sure you indicate it on the summons that you received.  If it is really close to the date, take the summons up to the courthouse personally instead of mailing.

  2. Request to be excused on the set date for your jury duty since you have an important appointment.
