Potassium chloride--what is it used for?

(1) What is this used for? (2) Is it ever used as a prescription? If so, for what purpose? (3) If a person has congestive heart failure and/or high blood pressure, would they ever take potassium chloride?

  2. potassium chloride is used to replace potassium in the blood. It will always be prescribed. It can be given in hospital through IV fluids usually if the potassium is quite low. They can put a patient on oral form, this is for those whose levels are not as low.

    People on diuertics or fluid tablets may have a tendency for the potassium to drop, because the role of the fluid tablets is to increase urine output, but sometimes electrolytes also drop as well such as potassium. If it drops too low they can put one on spironolactone which is  a potassium sparing diuetic

  3. Potassium chloride is a salt substitute. They also use it for lethal injections.
