Potatoes that come in cans- are the already cooked?

Question

there are no instructions on canned potatoes so can you

use them for mashed potatoes or fried potatoes.

And no where on the can does it say if they are cooked.

I did this the other evening and it was my first time ever using potatoes from a can. I just poured them into a pot (juice and all) and heated them up. Once completely heated through, I removed from the burner and mashed up. I thought they were quite good.

Of course!

A majority of canned foods are precooked such a Mac n' cheese and spagettios (Yum!) So no worries, they cook them so you don't have to!

But usually when you buy fruits and veggies in a can, you can tell that they aren't really fresh tasting. So, word of advise: Prepare them on your own! =DD

They are cooked. You can use such a potato in potato salads or any salad that requires boiled potatoes. You may  cut canned potatoes in pieces and fry with or without spices, add meat, bacon, eggs... or not. Would not recommend it for mashed potatoes.

Yep, they are cooked but I have never tried them mashed or fried, sounds great!

they're blanched.     a processed used for canning.

there's no real nutritional value to canned or frozen foods after blanching though.    

but you do get more salt than you would from a canned food than a fresh food.

you can use them for mashing but it's best to get fresh potatoes,  much more nutritious and much better tasting.

They canning process makes them OK to heat and eat.

They are terrible, make your own fresh one, they are far nicer.
