Potentail babysitter?

What questions should I ask a potential babysitter? Also what should I ask her reference? I'm a little at loss and I want to make sure I don't have a psycho watching my baby.

Gee, all of the answers have good things to offer here.  The finger print thing is especially good if you want her to go in for a "Live Scan."  Which will reveal if she has any criminal record that you should know about.  Child abuse, etc.  Call your local sheriff's dept and find out where you can get that done or she can go have her finger prints taken for you.  You can pay for it if  you want to make it easier on her.  Or split it.

You want to make sure that the information is given to you as the employer.  She will have to sign release papers for you.  

Just because someone seems nice doesn't mean there isn't secrets in their closets.  You can't be too careful.

How long have you been babysitting?

Do you have any little brothers/sisters?

What types of activities do you usually do with the kids you watch?

Would you mind if I stayed home and observed you with *enter kid's name*?

Do you know basic first aid/new CPR?

Do you have your own car?

Do you have references from your previous clients?

And so on. If you are apprehensive about leaving your child with a new sitter, invest in a nanny cam.

well, ur aunt suggested her, so she should be atleast trustworthy. but, u can ask things like "do u kno CPR, or heimlik (i cant spell), or do u hav kids or atleast takin care of kids". the most important thing is how u feel about her wen u meet her. she can be over qualified, but if she doesnt feel right, just try another person.

Get her finger prints and a copy of her drivers license. Ask for past references of other children she has watched in the past, observe her with you child(ren) for a while.
