Potential VN wife ?

Where is the best place in VN to find a potential VN wife ? Nice, but not too young. Just curious.

If you are looking for a Vietnamese wife, I suggest that you get to know Viet culture first. Visit the country several times with a Vietnamese friend. After your third or fourth visit, let your friend's mother, aunt, sister etc, know that you would like to meet a nice girl. They will take care of the rest.

I felt sorry for Traveler, he must has been through a rough relationship.  His advice is typical, but is truth to a certain degree.

I suggest you do this through a mutual friends or co-worker who has family in Vietnam, and known of some single available girls.  Take a first trip with your friend to VN, check things out first.  If you happen to meet the girl and have interest in her, start slow.  Keep in touch after you get back through airmail, email, phone...etc...Find out more about her personality, her family.....Then decided whether you want to marry her or not.  The next trip could be your wedding ceremony.  

One added value advice: do not apply for a marriage license in VN.  Have an engagement rather than a wedding.  After you go back, apply for a Fiance visa to bring her over, then get married here.  She would be legally married to an American citizen, that would override her visitor visa, she does not have to go back.

As someone who has been married to a Vietnamese lady for 12 years and have lived in Vietnam for 16 years (and am still here), let me give you a piece of advice.

Jump in front of a truck...its a more painless death.

I say that so you fully understand what you're getting into. You will experience culture shock like you never have before. Vietnamese women are NOT the same as Thai, or Japanese.

If you think you're getting a "delicate Asian flower" forget it. Vietnamese women are VERY strong willed and often control the decisions in the family. This can be both a blessing and a nightmare depending on who you married.

Traveller is right in that you marry the entire family and often have to take care of things for them, but this is not always as bad as it sounds either.

Bottom line is that you need to find a girl and really get to know her before clamping on the ball and chain...same as anywhere else.

The one  has a good answer.  I will add that I have been married to a lovely Vietnamese Lady for 13 years and we have a 10 year daughter.  A very happy relationship.

Yes you do marry the family and maybe that is why my mother in law bought me a new country home in Hue.  She is always giving us way more than we can give her.

Walk out to any place in Vietnam.  They will ask you two questions.  Where you from? and   Where is your wife.  If you say you don't have a wife they will bring by everyone female and single that they know and broker the marriage on the spot.  He!! they might even throw in a couple of girlie boys.  

the first and most significant thing to know about a Viet or South East Asian girl, Is that when you date or marry her you are dating and marrying her entire family. The can be a blessing or a curse and most times its a curse. As a westerner you are suddenly expected to pay for all family medical bills, replace telephones and motor bikes that go missing all to frequently etc. In other words they will bleed you dry. Now there are exceptions but I just watched a 7 year marriage go down in flames and its obvious that the family and the wife realized that he was running out of money and are now looking for greener pastures. All the properties etc are in the family name and he is out of luck funds friends and has no recourse.

There are hundreds of books about this in Thailand and Vietnam. Unfortunately, love is blind and no one ever thinks that it will happen to them. All to often it does.

Hope that your girl is a saint. She very well may be. Try not to look through Rose colored glasses.
