Potential Winners for the upcoming 2012 NHL All-Star Game -Part 1
It is that time of the year again when fans get the chance to vote and decide who they want to see playing the annual, National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Game. The competition is certainly tough this year as the 2012 NHL All-Star Game is getting closer
and closer, but there are already different rumours about which faces we might be seeing this time around.
The 2012 NHL ASG is scheduled to be held early next year midway through the 2011-2012 NHL regular season on the home ice of the Ottawa Senators in the Scotiabank Place, which certainly has home fans going wild with excitement.
There are also latest reports that some of the Senators players are receiving a huge amount of votes from the Ottawa fans and could be the most voted players in the end as well, insuring them a chance to play during the match.
Fans have until January 4, 2012, to finalise their voting and place their final opinions in the ballot, but while some have the regular routine of voting for those they love to see, other fans, who are the more extreme of the batch, are still waiting to
see some performance and will only vote on the basis of merit.
Some players have truly revolutionised their teams this time around as compared to the previous season, giving them the exposure needed to bag some votes and make an entry into one of the most anticipated events in the hockey world.
Some players who may be playing in Ottawa next year during the 2012 NHL All-Star game based purely on performance, turnaround and fan attraction might be the following,
1. Erik Karlsson (Defenseman, Ottawa Senators)
At this very moment, Erik Karlsson, a 21-year-old defender for the Ottawa Senators, leads the balloting with a surprising, 147,000 plus votes, something which is very surprising to see, but observing that the event this time is in Ottawa, he might just be
one of the competitors next time.
Karlsson was picked as the 15th overall draft pick during round-one of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Senators and is currently in his third straight season with the franchise.
Being a player that can pot top-notch numbers, Karlsson is a player who will certainly bring excitement to the star studded matchup. Last season, the Swedish sensation potted 45 points (13 goals, 32 assists) in 75 games played, but already in this season,
he has 18 points (1 goal, 17 assists) in only 21 games, which could potentially have him breaking his own records this time.
2. Daniel Alfredsson (Captain, Ottawa Senators)
Daniel Alfredsson, captain of the Ottawa Senators, has also picked up the second highest number of votes so far and is highly likely to stay that way as the balloting progresses.
Alfredsson made his highly anticipated debut this season after going out with a number of injuries last season, keeping Ottawa out of the limelight and in the darkness of the bottom level ranks in the Eastern Conference.
The veteran forward might not have a lot of points so far, eight (5 goals, 3 assists) in 15 games played, but his presence has certainly been more than enough to keep the Senators in a fighting position as they climb back up in the ranks.
