  1. Ask to interview a local recruiter.Only they, or recent post enlisted servicemen can truly answer.

  2. Wow 2000 words?

I would start by stating that only those with inherent ability or capacity for growth, development, or coming into being or acting as the next grade or rank are selected to be promoted in the Army. Those with limited or no potential are kept in grade/rank or released.

You must show that you have potential in order to be considered for a rank advancement. As a junior enlisted for example you are not required to do certain things but you should be able to show that you are capable of doing them if required to do so...

You are not a leader yet but you have certain traits that indicate the promotion authority that you can become an efficient leader.

For NCOs and Officers in the Army their potentials are actually measured as a valuable or key point in determining whether or not they will get promoted get better assignments etc… This is done by using the NCOER or OERs (NCO Evaluation Report and Officer Evaluation Report). There is a section of it that records the demonstrated performance and the potential of the rated individual. For Juniors on the counseling forms you should see that the leader is constantly pushing you to get to the next level he does so because he sees potential in you, and by pushing yourself to do what you are suggested you’ll put your self in a position where your comp[any commander or your next in line will recommend you for promotion. Show potential to lead soldiers, to take action without being told, potential to learn a new task quickly, potential to max your APFT etc… will make your leader push you to a promotion board.

Potential is everything in the promotion decision making process…

You can go on and on about potential and promotion… Good luck.

You might have potential to do something that you don’t even know your superiors will see it thru your actions and will reach the conclusion that you are ready to take bigger responsibilities…
