My sister is throwing a 4th of July / 8th Grade Graduation party for my nephew tomorrow. She JUST informed me that we are all to bring a side dish to pass. I have no problem with this except I don't know what to bring! I have gone to other "bring a dish" events but they were always under 10 people. What can you do for an entire family thing of at least 30? Other than buying a box of cookies or a couple of bags of chips. Please give me some SIMPLE recipes that you've taken to potluck style dinners. Thanks in advance!!!!!

  1. Parboil green beans for 4-5 minutes and rinse in cold water.  Marinate in Ken's asian sesame dressing for a few hours.  Just before you go, toast some sesame seeds and sprinkle them on top.   YUM

  2. make a big pasta salad. Boil tri color rotini and put in big bowl. mix with italian dressing to coat, parmesign cheese, fresh veggies

  3. Please note.  Just because the party is for thirty doesn't mean that you need to bring enough food to feed thirty people.

If 30 people brought thirty servings you'd have 900 servings and a whole lot of leftovers.

Bring your favorite salad or casserole to feed 8 to ten and you are covered.

Here is an easy salad you can make tonight and bring tomorrow.  Toss at the last minute.

    Seven Layer Mixed Up Salad

    Submitted by: triplesec

"This recipe is a quick and easy alternative to the traditional 7 layer salad. Great for summer get togethers."  Original recipe yield: 6 servings.

    INGREDIENTS:

1 (10 ounce) package frozen green peas, thawed and drained

    2/3 cup sour cream

1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

    1/2 cup chopped green onions

    1/2 cup chopped celery

    1/2 cup grape tomatoes

    1 ounce bacon pieces

    salt and pepper to taste

1 teaspoon dry ranch salad dressing mix

    --------------------------------------...

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. In a large bowl, gently mix the peas, sour cream, Cheddar cheese, green onions, celery, tomatoes, and bacon pieces. Season with salt, pepper, and dry ranch salad dressing mix. Chill at least 1 hour before serving.

  4. I have a recipe that is quick and simple.  I suggest that you double it or triple it.

    Crabmeat Dip

    1 clove garlic

    1/3 cup cream

one 8 ounce package cream cheese

1 cup flaked crab meat (one tin)

    2 tsps. lemon juice

    3/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

    dash of pepper

    dash of salt

Method:  Rub bowl with garlic.  Gradually add cream to cream cheese in bowl, blending until smooth.  Add remaining ingredients and mix.

The recipe is best if allowed to sit in refrigerator long enough for flavours to mingle.  It is good with ripple chips or with plain potato chips, which you can bring with the crabmeat dip.

  5. These are always a hit - just double the recipe

1  bag cubed hash brown potatoes ( not OBrien )

1  8 oz cream cheese softened

    1  can cheddar cheese soup

    1   can cream of mushroom

    1/2 cup sour cream

    1/4 margerine

In large pot over medium heat combine all ingredients except potatoes - stir until smoth

add potatoes in and fold to coat well

    transfer to a 9 x 13 baking dish

cook uncovered at 350 for about 1 hour or until top starts turning a little brown

  6. Well if you have to bring a dessert, this one will please all chocolate lovers!  I made a few of them for my brother's rehearsal dinner for his wedding!  All you need is a glass bowl or "trifle" bowl or a container.  If its clear it is better so you can see the layers!

1)Bake one 9x13 chocolate cake and cut into cubes.  Make a layer of the cake on the bottom of the bowl.

         (First layer)

    2) Then take 2 things of chocolate instant pudding and make with 3 cups of cold milk instead of 4.  Let it set in frige for a few minutes. Then when ready add half of the pudding on top of the cake.

         (Second Layer)

    3) The third layer of the desert is whipped cream.  The easiest way is to get 1 or 2 conatiners of cool whip and put on top of the pudding layer.

        (Third layer)

    4) The last layer is you get a package of Heath bits and scatter a good amount on top of the cool whip.

    5) Repeat the 4 layers one more time and end with the Heath on top again!

This is a really easy recipe and is sure to please all!  Good luck with whatever you end up doing!
