Well we just bought our son a potty.. the day we set it up he pee'd on it ... (this was the day before yesterday)

so far i asked him if he wants to go, he always says yes!!

so i take him every time even if i don't think he'll go

i sit him on the potty and when he is "done" or tired of sitting there he says "YA!!"

sometimes he goes and sometimes he doesn't

any suggestions

what else i can do

  1. give him a small treat every time he does go, like an m&m or something.  I worked in a day care with 2&3 yr olds and parents swear by this.  he should get a bigger prize (like a small toy or something) if he poops.  a lot of people also do sticker charts.  I think he's too young to understand the future rewards concept though.  I think immediate gratification would be more effective.  go you!  I can't wait to start potty training!

  2. I think you are doing well. Praise him whenever he does his business. Do not make any big deal if he does not. What we want here is to reinforce the positive . So keep it up. Good Luck!

  3. 16 months is pretty young to potty train; especially a boy. My son is 3 and he is not fully potty trained yet. Give him time. Encourage him by offering his favorite snack or doing something special if he goes potty. :)
