Potty Tranning?

Question

I'm potty training my son and i'm having him wear underwear just to get use to the idea, he goes to the potty to pee fine, i'm not pushing bowel training yet.

So when my son wants to go BM, He wants to wear a diaper, I tell him its ok to go BM in his underwear because i want him to get use to it. Yet, i dont tell him he cant wear a diaper. So when he asks, i put i diaper on him and he does buisness.

My Question is, why would he prefer a diaper over underwear?

obviously, he's aware that "big boys" don't make a mess in their underwear.

He understands that underwear is to be kept clean.   Since he's telling your BEFORE it happens, then he's ready to start doing it on the potty.  Do not tell him to soil his underwear--that sends him mixed messages.

If he knows and is aware that he has to poo then you should set him on the toilet and stay there with him if he needs you to.  You shouldn't be telling him that pooing in his underwear is okay b/c it isn't.  As long as you aren't angry with him he will be just fine.  Working at a daycare I saw many kids revert to wanting to put on a diaper to poo (face it, its scary) but with help and confidence from adults there learned in no time to go on the toilet.

Go witht the pull ups and when he wants to do his business, he can learn to pull down the pull ups and when he's done, you can tell him he's a big boy now and needs to start wearing underwear. Good Luck and don't get too upset with him if he makes mistakes.

because that is where he feels comfortable pooping...If he asks for a diaper put one on him, but try to sit him on the potty and p**p, pretty soon he will be headed to the potty to p**p without asking for a diaper....good luck...it is hard work...

Think about it like this. He has been using this diaper for how long? It would be like you TRYING to pee your pants. it does not feel right, if you manage to pee your pants... you are embarassed. Maybe when he says he has to use the bathroom... you could put him on the toilet and sit with him a while. read him a story or something and tell him he should let them come out in the toilet. Tell him he is a big boy and can use the toilet now like mommy does.

thats what he is used to. my daughter learnt bm before pee. funny how they are all different. lol. ggod luck.
