I have a male guinea pig, Rocky, who is potty trained and since school is starting and I won't be around I'd like to get him a friend. He was potty trained when I adopted him so I don't know how to train another one. If I get another guinea pig will he follow Rocky's example or do I have to learn how to train him?

  1. Some guinea pigs are more receptive to potty training than others.  There's a chance that the new guinea pig may never really get potty training.  That being said, there's no reason to give it a try.

This site has some good advice regarding potty training a guinea pig.  Basically put a litter tray where the GP is going to the bathroom.  Put some poo in there to make it smell like the toilet to him.  If you see your GP using it, praise him and give him a treat.

That's basically the idea, but you can read more about it here:

    Hope that helps!

  2. I would see if your new guinea pig has a natural instinct to use the bathroom in one specific place. Then get a litter pan and put it where (s)he likes to use the bathroom. Hope this helps!!

  3. I had a guinea pig and tryed to train her but had no luck at all.  but just try to look it up I had a really good book on guinea pigs and it told you how to train them.  but I don't think it's going to come naturaly even if you have a guinea big that is potty trained.
