Potty training 7 month old puppy?

NEED help

have a 7 month old mountain cur male,that now matter what i do will not use the bathroom outside

am using crate training and that is not working

this has been going on for more than 3 monthsthere is nothing physicall wrong with him or medically wrong am i doing somthing wrong i am out on medical leave for the next 3 weeks and am trying real hard to get the right before i go back to work in which i know will cause some problems

i have been taking him out every 2 hour now and as soon as we come in the house he goes to that spot and let loose or he will go to his cage and let loose i have caught him a couple of time and would hit him with newspaper on butt and retake him outside but to no avail its not working any suggestions,,,,,

  1. You're doing great with the taking him outside for two hours. The only thing is that you shouldn't hit him with the newspaper, I'm sure you're not hurting him, but he will not understand that kind of discipline.

    First of all, go down to a pet store and look for something that covers up the smell of urine (for the crate or certain spots in the house) or something along the lines of an irritant to discourage the dog to go in a specific spot. I'm not sure of a popular brand, others could probably help you with that.

    Secondly, keep taking him out every two hours, play with him outside, try to not go inside until he has gone to the bathroom. When he does that, praise him like crazy. If he goes somewhere unwanted, instead of the newspaper, simply say nothing, do not pet him, do not look at him. Dogs live to please and will quickly learn what pleases humans.
