Potty training: Is this a common mistake?

My daughter has been nappy-free for 2 mths now. She's just turned two. She has been perfect, no accidents, until two days ago. I think it was my fault. I was so busy thinking to take her to the toilet at every opportunity that I stopped iving her opportunity to need to ask. I would make sure she went before we left home and then an hour or so later take her again etc. It seems a reasonable thing to do, right?

Well we were out with her nanny (my mum) and she wet herself without asking for toilet until too late. Maybe it was just the excitment of being with nanny? Maybe its just 'one of those things'.

I was also jumping to take her a toilet in the night if she stirred as she refuses a night nappy and she wet the bed once.

But after the nanny-incident I realised I should back off and I have and she has been asking and not having an accident. At night I have 'left her' and she has stayed dry. I also noticed she doesn't NEED to go so often - she must be able to hold it longer than

  1. Its common for children to go backwards in toilet training. She still is quite young, Just continue what you are doing, and she will get there :)

  2. accidents n mistakes happen even with us ur talking of a two year old baby...plz dont be so harsh on her...the habit of taking her too the loo before leaving house before sleeping after a meal at the restaurant is all ok n gud...

at night put her on the diaper once she sleeps thats what i still do for my 3 yr old girl n 2 yr old boy...if u keep waking her up at night she will not be able to sleep properly at night...

kids learn on their own..u need to help them....dont get too worried on her accidents they r bound to happen n plz dont make it sound so horrible like she did smthg really bad....im sure she'll pick up...gud luc!!!

  3. Nothing happens over nite or in two months.  If it won't make her feel bad try putting a pull up on her at night and let her alone, she needs sleep.  Don't obsess just be prepared to clean up when she has an accident.  Little kids will get excited with new things or going with a beloved relative and they will simply forget.  Clean up and get over it.  It is not a reflection of your parenting skills and your mum will not think less of you it your little one has an accident.  Now if she were twenty-three and did that....

  4. the fact she goes less often is because her bladder muscles are getting stronger as she uses them.

kids are often so engrossed in what they are doing and going bathroom will just have to wait

  5. I have found that the younger you start the more back sliding in potty training, and more messes you will have. It is common for kids to go through different phases with the "potty" relationship. But hang in there, and keep doing what your doing.
