Question:

Potty training a 20 m/o girl?

My daughter just turned 20 months yesterday and has, in the past week or so, been expressing that she wants to use the potty. I'm not sure if it is because we have been showing her "potty" books just to see what her interest is or if she is truly ready.

I've read a few books on the subject and we're actually going to buy her the potty today but I was wondering what real people have done and what really works and what doesn't.

Most importantly, did you use diapers or let them get "wet"? I have just found the EC website also.

Thanks!!

  1. Well, I started putting my 1st born on the potty as soon as she could sit up. She was just 5 months old at the time and I`d hold her up. I NEVER had any problems with her and the potty. Also, I`d "time" her and just put her on. I live in the Caribbean and 17 years ago out houses were still very popular at the time and this method helped me out a lot. If your child`s showing interests, encourage her.

  2. My 21 Month Old Got a hang of it after a day or two.  I just had her running around naked!..Yeah There is the pee.cleaning thing but Hey, i see it like this i rather clean pee for a few Hours than have to deal with Freaking Diapers till She's 4.   On the 3rd day She Was already Taking Me to the bathroom and pointing at her Elmo Potty Seat.

She would Pee on Floor  the first day and i would just Tell her Thats Pee Pee..and take her to the Potty And sit her on it and tell her that was where she was suppose to do pee-pee and i would laugh and sing her favorite songs.  The Next Day She was peeing just a little bit on the floor and she would run to me  tugging at my hand to take her to bathroom and would finish in the potty.

As For p**p She only did it once on floor because i wasn't paying attention LOL LOL.  she had been running around screaming but i just really didn't know what was going on till it came out! LMAO..i  wasn't Familiar with the Poopoo Dance.  But Ever since then she does it in the potty... but she still wears diapers though when am at work.  i kinda feel like it is confusing her! but we have no choice.  NO one is going to take the time to clean up if she does pee on the floor but me and  grandma..her dad will too but he rather not LOL lol ...

And also i find if she wears shorts or something  with out the diapers she feels as if she is wearing diapers and she pees anyways..so for now i just leave her but naked...

Give her something she loves like a Cookie...right after shes done bring it with you..and cheer in happiness you know my daughter loves when i clap and scream YEYYYYYYY lol

  3. Go ahead and get her started.  Get big girl underwear and have her wear it at home.  This way she'll notice if she's wet.  In the community you can use pull-ups.  She will probably have a lot of accidents at first but it's not a big deal.  Praise her a lot when she uses the potty.  If she doesn't use it don't  reprimand her just remind her that big girls p**p and pee in the potty.  Over time she'll get the hang of it, especially if she doesn't feel pressured or scared.
