  1. I have something called a lipski toilet trainer, you can buy them on ebay, good fun and easy to use, little kids canput it up themselves etc. Go to the toilet with him till he feels less scared of the noise etc then as he gets more confident ,he will be able to do it by himself.

  2. Cover the sensor with a piece of masking tape or a post-it note.  It won't go off.

At home, let him get reacquainted with his own potty in a positive way.  We got special "potty snacks" (I recommend Gerber puffs) and books that he could have whenever he was on the potty.  Our son was so excited that he would spend close to an hour at a time on the potty.  We weaned him after about a week and now he goes when he needs to.

  3. my oldest daughter is 5 yrs old and she still hates those kinds of toilets. We went to Walmart and that happened to her. Now i have to cover up the sensor thing to make sure it doesn't flush on her again. I think it's crazy they do that. The least they could do is make it less noisy. It sounds like it's going to take you down with it. No wonder the kids get scared.

  4. I would take him BACK into the same noisy toilet and make a joke of it. Bring some fruit looop and toss them into the toilet.... hold him... and flush them down... I would do this a few times. and then tell him it is ok to potty. he might like the idea. if you have to i would let him toss them into the toilet at home. they will flush down with out a problem. nothing will happen to your toilet. if this does not work... continue taking him inside the bathroom and working on the potty training... He might forget all about it. I would think he should fall right back into using the toilet if nothing else happends.

    good luck!

  5. that fruit loop idea actually sounds like a good one. But I would stress that you do all of this watching closely for his reaction...don't force him into doing anything because it will make things worse. Let some time pass. Its not a big deal. BELIEVE me...I just went through it with my 3 year old. i was SOOoo scared that he was going to be going into kindergarten not potty trained! But just this past April...bam...just like that, it was his time. Use your instincts...I tried pushing at times and it didn't work, I too had him almost potty trained and then my mother in law DROPPED him in the toilet..set as back for awhile....but as time went on...he forgot all about it...we just didn't make a big deal and let him go on his own terms. Your little one will get there!

  6. Both of my kids were absolutely terrified of those automatic flush toilets!

Some kids are instant potty trainers.  But, most kids have setbacks, and that's all this is.  My daughter was using the potty at 18 months, and then she got tired of it before she reached 2.  I didn't get her totally potty trained until she was four!  It seemed to take forever, but we got through it.  Just keep reminding him to use the potty "next time" when he has accidents, and come up with a reward system.

A sticker chart is great for a three year old.  With my daughter, she chose what special prize she'd really like to have (watermelon lipgloss in her case).  When she got a sticker in each of the 25 boxes on her chart, we went to the store to get the lipgloss.

I think the fruit loops in the potty was a good idea.  Or, just downplay the instant flush toilet, by saying something along the lines of, "Oh...sometimes when we go out, the public toilets flush by themselves.  It's to keep our hands clean, and it's nothing to worry about.  But, you can still flush our toilet at home after you potty--I know you like to flush."  Then, you're taking the focus off the fear of the toilet, and onto how he's disappointed because he doesn't get to flush for himself.

Lastly, my daughter loves this potty training video, so your son may also.  It's in Japanese, so you'll have to read the subtitles to him:
