my husbands nephew just turned 4, he is not at all potty trained. he wears a pull up but still goes to the bathroom in them. my brother in law asked what we thoght would help and i have no idea. he has tried making him sit on the toilet for a while during the day, making him go to the bathroom and sitting there until he goes. but nothing works. my hubbys cousin says she found p**p in his bedroom when she was watching him. he can not go to school until he is potty trained. i hate this but my BIL was spanking him when he would go in his pull up. he got so use to it he would say, 1 or 2 daddy? and would not even cry. honestly, i dont think that my BIL and his GF should have kids bc their daughter who is 14 months old always has a diaper rash and they depend on everybody else to take care of them and when my hubbys cousin can not watch the kids bc they call at the last minute(20 minutes before his gf has to leave for work) they say, well, i just wont go to work then, really snotty. so what are some ways that they can potty train him. what are the laws in ohio about not going to school bc of not being potty trained. what will the gvt. do to them?

  1. wow your supposed to poddy train kids by the age of 1 or 2 wow lol

  2. it seems that they would rather work than be with their children or maybe they are such work aholics that they dont have time to teach the kids and take care of them and unfortunatly I think CPS or a family member should stand in and take those kids b4 something seriously bad happens.. its only a matter of time. Good luck!

  3. I think the poor boy needs encouragment and praise rather than spanking. He is obviously missing something and maybe by going in his pull up is the only way he gets some needed attention. Children are very sensitive to their surrounding environment, so I suggest you somehow talk to your BIL and hid GF about maybe changing some of the things they do. Its not that they are bad parents maybe they just need a little guidance, we all need advice. Good Luck.

  4. This is entirely behavioral due to the child's unstable home environment.  It is not an issue of learning to use the toilet.  The child needs a supportive, firm and  caring approach to overcome this learned habit.  Spanking, ridiculing and neglect will only reinforce these habits.  Take away the pull-ups, buy him some underwear, bring him frequently to the toilet at regular intervals, be supportive, give positive reinforcement and make a real effort to be consistent. He is 4 and is still young enough to adapt to a regular routine, he can overcome this in as little as one day if done properly.

  5. The best thing for me and my family was the sticker method.  Put a sticker on the calender every time they do it right.  And when they get to a certain amount of stickers and/or a certain amount of days without a mistake, then reward them.  Make even bigger rewards for longer time periods.  That way you train them with a positive attitude / Positive reinforcement instead of punishing the bad-- they feel more accomplished this way.

  6. I don't know about the school stuff in Ohio...but to help potty train the child.  They will have to be patient.  And they should have started this a while ago.  My son is 3 1/2 and he has been potty trained for a year and potty trained at night time for about 8 months now.  First off...I would get rid of the pull ups during the day.  I did, and it gets a bit messy but it will kind of give the child a push to use the potty.  Have they tried making it fun for him.  Rewarding him when he does use it.  Do they have a child size potty?  My son was intimidated by the big potty, so we got him a little one to keep in the bathroom...and he liked using it.  We let him even sit on it while watching tv so he could get comfortable with it.  It only took him about a good 2 weeks to start using the potty...now he uses the big potty with his little boy seat

  7. how about chucking away the pull ups and get him to wear pants

By the way, he's your nephew as well.

  8. That is outrageous!!

How would you feel about calling CPS?

  9. Put some training underwear on, you know, the thick ones, under his pull up. If he feels the biting from the wet enough he will want to go. Spanking is not going to do it.

  10. the easiest way to potty train a boy is to start of with peeing in the potty. use cheerios and tell them to aim for them in the toilet its fun and it works they will want to go pee to see if they can do it!!! check about every 15 mins if they have to go stay on it you cant regress after they have acomplished the peeing pooping will come natural you can even give thim a m&m for every cheerio that they hit!!! it becomes a game for the child they like it they do it!!! pretty simple!!!
