Question:

Potty training an adult dog?

I have a 2 year old peke and she has always used puppy pads in the house. She was started off this way as a puppy by her previous owner. However we got her as an adult and have been putting the pads down so she wouldn't mess up our carpet. How do we get her use to going outside instead of using the pads?

  1. I am not sure if this will work if you live in an apartment, but what I would do is start to move the pads closer and closer to the door then eventually move them outside so that she is going there.  I would also crate her whenever I was out of the house, because dogs will not soil where they sleep, generally.

  2. After Her meal, take Her out for a nice walk.

Dogs are not like people, they take it in, they

have to let it out - try to walk her the same time

everyday, until She gets the hang of it.

  3. Keep the pad in one spot. Gradually move it closer to the door every day until she starts peeing outside. Be patient. Some dogs take a while to be housebroken.
