I am potty training my 2 year old, we are doing really well he uses the potty nearly everytime but only if he isn't wearing bottoms, if i put pants on him he doesn't try to go to the potty and wees in them thinking its a nappy. How do you teach your child to know that they need to pull down their pants to go? He started to go to the potty by himself but only when he is not wearing bottoms.

  1. You just need to stick it out...my son did the same thing...try putting really loose bottoms on him so that he doesn't think it's a diaper...that worked with my son for the most part

  2. Potty training is a long process so be patient he will get there! When he is wearing pants just ask him often if he wants a wee, take him to the potty and tell him to pull his pants down to have a wee, then help him pull them down and sit on it, he will soon get there! and remember loads of praise wen he does

    all the best xx

  3. It's gonna take him only 1 day of wetting his panties to realize it's not that fun after all. If you've already done that and he's still wetting himself, perhaps he's getting confused, are you putting him in nappies at any time again? like at night time or when you go out. It is not recommended to put him in nappies once training him apart from bed time and make that clear to him so he knows it's only for bed time. As for when taking him out, he might wet himself, be prepared but only once or twice, I promise. And if you've just started potty training him keep in mind that you have to stay home for the first 3 days then starting gradually to go out like very small trips to the neighbours, a local shop, or a friend. Then gradually longer trips. That shall do.

  4. My friend had a similar problem and she found the best way was to put boxer shorts on her little one. Maybe it was the feeling of being free as pants do feel like a nappy.

Just persevere the more they practise, the better they become. Good Luck

  5. well having to stay in wet undies does not feel good...

poopies undies just as bad or worst so try the...

"if u go in your pants u stay like that" method

if they know when they have to go... too soon doesn't exist

  6. Well, I think it just takes a few times of peeing in their undies before they realize it's not like a diaper. My son did this too...but eventually starting telling me it was time to go.

  7. Physically show him how it is done. My son is 2 and a half now and showing will be the best solution. Let him watch you potty then he will understand how its done.
