Question:

Potty training using the bare bottom method...please help!

So we started potty training our daughter yesterday, she's 27 months. We are trying the bare bottom method and she seems to do better when she's not wearing panties. When she does wear panties she just pees and poops in them. After the last accident we had in them about a half hour ago she is refusing to try to wear undies.

I guess what I'm worried about is getting her to wear her big girl panties and not use them as she would a diaper? Does anyone have any suggestions? How many days should we go bare bottom and then try to introduce undies again?

Please and thank you so much!

  1. Sorry I think that is nasty(bare bottom method)... I had twins and potty trained them at 2 yrs... using big girl panties and potty seats. And of course rewarding them for using the potty.

It takes work on both your parts...and letting her run around potty on the floor teaches her what?

    Good luck

  2. Actually my husband and i are currently doing the same thing with our 2 year old, and we are not the only ones who have done this. we started a week ago, and it seems to be working out. Before this we would put her "big girl panties" on her and every 20 minutes we would sit her on her potty, and it never failed 5 minutes after wards she would have an accident in her panties. So, i was talking to someone about this and they mentioned that there daughter had potty trained her granddaughter this way, so i figured it can't hurt to try. Last week we started, and everytime she had to go she darted for her potty and went. NO she didn't just go potty on the floor. Yesterday we put panties on her to see how she would do, and she did indeed go to her potty and went on it when she had to go, and did not have an accident in her panties at all.So, for us it's working. Keep in mind to that you just started yesterday. Give it some time and patience and she'll come throguh. Good luck to you. Hope it works out.

  3. You just started, so give yourself (and her) a little time to get used to the idea that pee/p**p goes in the potty.  She should be willing to wear undies once she is confident with her ability to make it to the potty.

Having said that, she is still a bit on the young end for potty training, so if you DON'T make good progress in the next few days, I'd probably go back to diapers until she's more ready and interested.
