Pouldine Warrior overcomes lean patch
Pouldine Warrior ran out of his skin last night at Romford racing track and managed to overcome his longstanding lean patch by winning the 400m Grade A5 race. The white and brindle dog caused a huge upset by sealing the success with a margin of 5 ½
lengths.
On a chilly February 6 night, the D Mullins-trained dog surged past his opponents, and ended up with a glorious victory which snapped his long losing streak.
The son of Sweet Trey, out of Best By Mile won his first race since May, 2011. This long losing streak rendered him as the non-favourite runner. The bookies had been ignoring him continuously for the last three months.
Prior to the yesterday’s contest, none of the bettors and spectators was thinking about Pouldine Warrior. All eyes were hinged on, Full Jake, who was going to run as the 5 to 2 favourite hound.
When the race started at 19:27, Pouldine Warrior broke from trap 2. From the very start, he seemed to be in an aggressive mood. Within a blink of an eye, he had gone far away from the rest of the field.
It seemed that the runner was running against maiden hounds. Finally, the veteran dog completed the distance in 24.50 seconds.
It was an unbelievable upset indeed. All the bookmakers, spectators and even the trainer himself were surprised to see the dog’s outstanding performance.
His connections would be hoping that this victory will add a lot to Pouldine Warrior’s confidence, and he will compete with the same force in the upcoming races of 2012.
Among other five competitors, Tir Na Saoirse grabbed second spot after breaking from trap 6. Trained by E A Gaskin, the black dog wasn’t able to match the eventual winner’s pace, and as a result he left way behind in the race.
The third top position was accomplished by, Full Jake, who crossed the boundary strap in 25.06 seconds despite being the hot favourite. The trainee of M E Lucas broke from trap 3.
Par Finola finished fourth while Alrita Harley and Centurion Lulu earned fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
