Poulter brands BBC Personality Year of the Awards as farce
Ian Poulter branded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards a 'farce’ on his Twitter account.
The Englishman does not agree with the personality of the year award, which is why he he is making such comments. He believes that Lee Westwood or Graeme McDowell should have  received the honour, as they
deserved it. Westwood is world number one, whereas McDowell won a major title this year.
Poulter wrote, “Darts comes second in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year voting, get a grip. Congrats to AP. A great sportsman and a gent, but he wasn't my choice. It is a farce. How could Graeme McDowell or Lee Westwood not
win? G-Mac wins a Major and Westy is world no.1"
The criticism was a little obscene. If Poulter doesn't agree with something he should at least have kept his rant decent. After all golf is about etiquettes, and as Poulter is one of the finest professionals
around, he should have tackled the matter bit carefully.
The player who Poulter referred to in his statement was AP McCoy, a British Jockey. The Irishman won the title of BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Saturday evening in Birmingham, and is acknowledged
to have taken part in some 31,000 races. He finished ahead of darts king Phil Taylor in second, and heptathlete Jessica Ennis in third place.
Ian Poulter congratulated McCoy, but did agree with Taylors’ contention. He wanted one of his friends to be there. However, the criticism did not stop there. Poulter further wrote that he was gutted for
not being nominated, although he too had won World Tiddlywink Championships. Well that was sarcasm on his behalf for not being considered worthy of contention.
The harsh comments have angered the darts fraternity, but the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) chairman handled the matter in a very responsible way and responded, “I know Ian. He is a great player.
I am sure, as a great sportsman himself; he respects the ability of other great sportsmen.”
This is the second time Ian Poulter has landed himself in a controversy on Twitter. Earlier, he made one-sided comments regarding a football match, in which he supported his favourite club Manchester United.
