Pour syrup on cake before frosting?

I was watching an episode of "dinner impossible", and he poured some kind of syrup over the layers of cake before frosting them

can anyone tell me what that is? recipe?

  1. It was probably simple syrup.  Made from sugar and water being boiled together.  You can use it to sweeten many things.


  2. It could have been simple syrup (like other poster said) or a flavored syrup similar to the ones used to flavor coffee. It makes the cake more moist and much denser. Black Forest cake is the only kind I've ever made where I used a syrup; you could try researching a recipe for that to get a better idea of how the syrup is used.

  3. yea i saw that one it was a simple syrup/ sugar syrup.

    basically all you do is have

        2 parts sugar

        1 part water

    Preparation:

       1. Bring the water to a boil.

       2. Dissolve the sugar into the boiling water.

       3. Once the sugar is dissolved completely, remove the pan from the heat.

       4. Allow to cool completely and then pour desired amount on cake.
