Poverty, has anyone out there help people wo need it?

I am doing a research project for English about Poverty and I was wondering if there is anybody has been over to India of Africa, anywhere to help with Poverty. I would love to do this when I am older and I would love to know your experience! Thankyou!

Central America.  Helping a little bit through "fostering" a couple of children, and helping to recruit a lot of others to do the same, raising money for projects.  Also doing a bit of counselling with some of the children é but that is helping with their emotional poverty (It often goes together, unfortunately). While I do not believe that poverty necessarily goes hand in hand with crime and vice, I have found that absolute poverty that brings about desperation can reduce the value of life in people's eyes, and thus contribute to bring about crime and vice. So you get a lot of violence, incest, rape, whatever: people are willing to do anything to get some immediate pleasure and hang the consequences. That leaves an awful lot more misery as a result.

yes in this country the rest i could give a buck, home first the rest i shall decide what i would do .

I haven't been to Africa or India but my wife and I do support an elderly man in So. America and have also supported a couple of elderly women as well until they passed away.

We chose to support the elderly because so many people choose children and the elderly are left with nothing.

I will also give money to beggars that I see on the street and try to give them $10 or $20 so that I know they can get something to eat. People always tell me that I am wasting my time and money because they will just spend it on drugs or booze. What can you do if they are holding a sign that says "Hungry. Please Help"

I know people that work in the local soup kitchens and feed the homeless, they say that the satisfaction they get from doing so is just overwhelming.
