My dad basically just bought a powder coating business. The old business didnt have the greatest reputation or customers. So he's in a way starting from scratch. What is some good advice you could give to him. The old owner sorta drove the business into the ground. What could my dad do to make sure this doesnt happen to him?

  1. It is all about marketing. You can turn the worst into the best.

Be very neat and tidy in the workshop, customer area- make one if you don't, and your appearance. Tell everyone by putting a neat and tidy sign outside it is under new ownership, Under promise and over deliver. Employ well experienced staff. Treat the staff as they are the best asset of the business. Fact is good staff are your best asset.

    Do not underestimate yourselves.

My prices (plumbing) would be in the highest 10%. I have grown from by myself to 3 men and 1 apprentice in 2 years. My advertising budget is $2000 per year for a t/a of 1.5 m. Remember advertise your service. IE what you do and your phone number in big writing, who you are in small writing.

My bank does all sorts of courses for small business owners. When I started going and LISTENING and DOING what they suggest , guess what happened?  40k a year to 200k a year after all wages and expenses and tax.

Also do not work 7 days a week. spend at least 1 day with the family and or just chilling out.

Spend 4 days working for the bus and 1 day working on the bus.

Go for it and i sincerely wish good luck and good fortune
