Does anyone have an ideas on how to mix powdered formula without having lots of lumps???

I'm currently using Similac Advance ... if that helps :-)

  1. I've always found it easier to mix bottle by bottle.  Each evening I boil enough water for the next day.  Each time I need a bottle I heat the amount of ounces necessary, place it in the bottle.  Then add the powder and shake very well.  Let it sit for about 5 minutes for it to settle.

  2. use a small wisk and beat it well! Mix it in with warm water too it helps it dissolve better. I pre-mix my formula in a pitcher and then pour the bottles.

  3. The best purchase I made when I couldn't breast feed was a formula pitcher! You mix up the days batch and store in the fridge ( toss it out after 24 hours). No lumps and no powdery mess on the counter! They are less than 8 dollars at Babies R Us and are specially made so that you don't have clumps.

Also, try mixing it with slightly warm water...that may help!

    Good luck!

  4. I have a friend who makes a blender full of formula for the day.  I guess the blender gets rid of the bumps!

  5. Put the water in first (before the powder) and shake really well. If possible let the bottle sit for a couple minutes before serving, that will rid the foam (from shaking) .. but the 'lumps' are from not being shook up enough, make sure you shake the bottle well.

  6. this is one of the reasons i never used powder formula...i always got the concentrate..HATE powdered formula, made my son more colicky..

  7. put formula in and a lil water shake shake shake then put the rest of the remaining water in and shake some more...

  8. Every night we pre-mix what she will eat the next day. We use Nutramigen which is notoriously lumpy (and nasty, but our little weirdo loves it -- luckily).  Its good for 24 hours after its made and if we make it around 9pm, she's usually in bed and done eating by 7 and the pitcher is empty.

We use a glass pitcher with a rubber stopper-lid. We add the powder, then the water, and shake it up. Overnight all the leftover lumps dissolve and its ready to go in the morning.

You'll have to play with what amounts to make until you get a good handle on how much (right now we do 16 scoops and 4 cups of water, which gives us enough for 1 day's worth).

    Good luck! Hope that helped.
