Power, Aidan O’Brien’s most impressive entry for the Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas at Curragh
The Group 1 Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas (Entire Colts & Fillies) will be raced at Curragh over a mile. The race has been able to bring together some exceptional talent as always and this year competing for the €174,000 prize money is a line-up of eleven
three-year-old runners.
Power, Oasis Dream’s three-year-old bay colt out of mare, Frappe, has almost become accustomed to nailing the races at Curragh. Aidan O’Brien’s under charge has won thrice out of the four career starts at the race course.
His career debut was in the Alfred Nobel European Breeders Fund 2YO Maiden on 2nd May, 2011 at Curragh over six furlongs. He very conveniently set the 5/2 favourite of the race, Remember Alexander, into the runner up’s slot while leading by two
clear lengths.
Coming at terms with the third position was Riviera Poet.
His very next career attempt was again at the same race course on 21st May in the T P Waters European Breeders Fund Marble Hill Stakes over five furlongs. This time the victory was more auspicious as he won as the 6/4 favourite and that too with
a highly challenging margin of a short head’s difference.
The Group 2 victory in the Coventry Stakes on 14th June at Ascot over six furlongs entitled Power to the career’s first hat trick and that too through the first three career outings.
On 7th August he missed the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at Curragh over six furlongs but did not make it an easy win for La Collina who was threatened by the 7/4 favourite runner up, reeling in only at a neck’s margin.
He grabbed firmly the fourth outing at Curragh on 10th September by winning the Group 1 Goffs National Stakes over seven furlongs and led the 5/2 favourite runner up of the race, Dragon Pulse, by just half a length.
Power did not win after this and has raced only once ever since the new season shot off, an attempt which was rather quite disappointing.
He has three stable mates in the race, Daddy Long Legs, Reply and Wrote. Besides these threats, the rest of the line-up is not the forgiving sort too.
Fifth career outing at Curragh and a fourth success through it is what the connections are seeking out of the race today.
