Power Horse defeat Audi to clinch 2011 Spring Classic Cup: US Polo Recap
Marc Ganzi lit the lamp five times, as Power Horse notched a commanding 11-9 victory over Audi to win the title of the 2011 Spring Classic Cup held at the Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, Florida.
In the opening period, Audi dominated the field with the ball possession. However, the Power Horse outfit came into action in the third chukka and crushed the talented Audi squad.
The game started with quite a slow pace and the two teams scored one goal each in the first set of play. Lucas Lalor scored off a spot-shot for Audi, while Sugar Erskine managed a field goal in response and had it all even. The first frame was concluded
with two teams holding a one-all dead-lock with them.
In the second chukka, Lalor nailed a couple of goals to expand the lead up to two points. In the later time, Jack Mann unleashed a well-coordinated shot to put opponent Power Horse under heavy weight. J.J. Celis and Marc Ganzi accounted for a solitary
goal apiece from Power Horse to close the period by trailing a single goal, 4-3.
The Power Horse attack came alive in the third frame, which obtained three goals, while holding Audi score-less in the seven and half minutes of play. Marc Ganzi chipped in a pair of goals of which one came from the field, while converted another from
a penalty shot. His team-mate, Sugar Erskine, added another goal for Power Horse to increase the lead up to three goals, 6-3 at the halftime.
The pace of game sped up in the second half of play. The players from Audi cranked up their offence and made a comeback into the game. Juan Bollini and Lalor scored one goal each in the fourth period and tied the knots at six-all. In the very next
minute, Marc Ganzi broke the tie while Erskine stretched the Power Horse lead. The chukka ended with Power Horse hanging on to a two-goal edge, 8-6.
The lead changed hands with Audi in the second last set of play when Bollini scored three back-to-back goals for Audi. On the other side, the resilient Audi defence kept Power Horse off the score-board throughout the period. Both teams moved into the
final action with Audi leading the game by a single score, 9-8.
Conversely, it was the only offence from Audi in the game, as the Power Horse did not allow them to make addition onto the scoreboard. Marc Ganzi and Erskine scored two and one goal respectively to seal their final victory at 11-9.
Ganzi was awarded the MVP of the tournament while ‘Main Attraction’ of Melissa Ganzi was named as the Best Playing Pony.
