  1. Excellent question:  You are correct, electricity is measured in kilowatts per hour.

Divide the $ amount on your electric bill by the number of KWH used and you will have the cost.  It should be between 6 and 12 cents per KWH

Your laptop consumption should be listed in the specifications of the owners manual.  It will not be shown in KWH, but probably some other way, like amps or watts.  So you will convert it to KWH.  For example:  If your laptop uses 230 watts, you convert that to KWH by moving the decimal three places:  It will be .230 KWH.

So lets say your laptop uses .230 KWH:  and you are paying $ .12 cents per KWH:  Multiply .230  X  $ .12, it will be costing you $ .0276 per hour to run the laptop.  .0276 = 2.76 cents per hour.

  2. There is no such thing as a kilowatt per hour; energy consumption is measured in watt-hours, or kilowatt-hours.  There will be ratings on the power pack for your laptop; use these to figure out the power consumption.  Electricity in the US averages around 12 cents a kilowatt hour; Canadian rates are probably comparable.

  3. Watts = Volts x amps   1kilowatt is 1000 watts

so  canada runs on 110volts but someplaces 220volst

    1000 watts = 110 volts x amps = 9.09 ams

    1000 watts = 220 volts x amps = 4.54 amps
