How can losses be minimized by having a balance between inductive reactance and capacitive reactance?

  1. Balancing the inductive and capacitive reactances creates a unity power factor (PF).  The result is the minimum current for a given load.  Line losses are proportionate to the square of the current.  With the lowest possible current, the losses have been minimized.


  2. in an inductive system current lag the voltage by 90 (phase different between the two waveforms..)

    in an capacitive system the voltage lag current by 90 .....

    and the active power is given by V*I*Cos(theta)        [theta is the phase difference]

    if the inductance and Capacitance is balanced the voltage and current is in phase So the Cos(theta) becomes 1 giving the highest value to active power
