Hi friends, have spent the last eight weeks working early shifts and back shifts, combined with visiting my mum in hospital. I am absolutely shattered and want to know how you manage to power nap and does it give you any benefits?? I expect to be doing the same routine for another few weeks and would be greatful for any advice on getting a decent rest.. Thanks..

  1. i read some where that you should sit in a chair with a coin in your hand. you only need the amount of sleep you get in the time it takes for you to drop the coin (the noise is meant to wake you up) any more any you will be left feeling sluggish. never tried it though

  2. You need to take care of you so you can keep doing the things your doing. Yes power naps help. Try to get 10-60 minutes. Drink 100% grape or orange juice. Also the V-8 Infusion drink is good. take care and good luck.

  3. If you are able to fall asleep just anywhere and everywhere, just 10 minutes can be incredibly refreshing.  Are you working through the night?  Could you have a word with the doctors in the hospital and get permission to visit out of hours.  As this seems to be going on for some time, they may view this with some sympathy and it has to be worth asking.  You're already in an exhausting situation, without having a tough shift pattern.

I hope your mother is on the mend.  Good luck.
