Power on but fridge/freezer not working (only...

Question

It has been freezing up excessively in the freezer section for months plus the compressor working nearly all the time. The repair engineer would defrost it and the same problem would re-occur.It started making a dreadful noise from the compressor, the engineer fixed it again then the fridge freezer just stopped working completely (except for lights so it still has power). The engineer said that the only things left to replace is the board behind the fron display panel and that to access it he would "have to destroy" the front of the fridge as it has been "glued on". I haven't glued it on so assume this has been done in the factory. I don't have much confidence in this guy from previous visits so not sure if he is correct? Can you help?
