Power recovers from the Newmarket misfortune with a victory in the Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas
Aidan O’Brien’s charge, Power redeemed himself from the disappointing race at Newmarket when he bolted through the Group 1 Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas at Curragh on 26th May, 2012, where he was in the capable hands of jockey, J. P. O'Brien.
The son of Oasis Dream, out of mare Frappe, entered the race with a 5-1 shot and was not expected to excel, but the good surface of the track gave him all the benefit he needed.
With his brisk pace and the jockey’s winning strategy, he managed to break through the wire first, 1 length before Bryan Smart’s charge Foxtrot Romeo whereas O’Brien’s Reply finished third, ¾ length behind the runner-up.
The race did not end well for the race favourite, Trumpet Major, as he finished in last place.
The three-year-old competed in the Group 1 Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes (204th Running) at Newmarket on 5th May, 2012, where he ridden by jockey, Ryan Moore, it seemed that the good to soft surface of the track did not suit him and finished seventeenth
among eighteen runners.
The winning trainer was immensely delighted with his performance and appreciated all the effort his team put into it as he said:
"He has a lot of class and they can't go too fast in a race for him. I have to credit all the team at home including Keith Dalton, who rides him out every day - it's a big team effort. He's a big, powerful horse, hence his name, and I'd say he'll go for
the St James's Palace now."
This victory was the fifth one among eight starts for the M. Tabor, D. Smith and Mrs. John Magnier owned runner, likely to land some massive races in the near future.
J. P O’Brien sent a shout-out to rider Ryan Moore:
"I have to thank Ryan Moore. He rode the horse at Newmarket and said he felt like a good horse for the first part of the race and he just didn't come down the hill on the ground. He said he thought this fella was the one, so a big thanks to him."
