  1. i think that most brands that are energy efficient will have special stickers and information on the tags and machines at the store.

another good way to research is to use consumer reports to look up what you want.

Sears and Best Buy have some nice items. Even better some of the upright front loading models are now water efficient on top of being energy savers. Kenmore, Whirlpool are very good. If you have an Ikea store they will have good prices too.

    Best wishes & good luck.

  2. The sticker on them should show which ones use the least overall but since YOU are the one controlling where you set the controls it's up to you to determine the actual savings.  If you buy a good brand of washer and wash with the coldest water possible, and avoid the extra rinse cycles etc. it will help.  Then with the dryer, use the more dry/less dry side of the k**b.  This lets the dryer determine how long it actually run by the amount of moisture that's actually left in the clothes.  If you set it more towards the less dry, it leaves a little moisture in the clothes rather than overdrying them and wasting energy.  You can figure out for yourself the best place on the controls to get the best results.  Using the timed side of the control, you're possibly running the dryer long after the clothes have been dried and just wasting energy.  Good luck.
