My power steering fluid leaks out of my Buick slowly. If I refill it, it usually runs out in 2-3 days. What's wrong and is it an expensive fix? Thanks.

  1. 2-3 days?  That is far from slowly my friend.  Best thing you can do is take it to a mechanic and have him diagnose the leak.  Yes the repairs could be expensive depending on the source of the leak, but worth the cost.  Running out of PS fluid not only makes turning very difficult, but can cause damage to the power steering system.  At least make sure you keep fluid in it until you can get it repaired.

  2. start by decreasing the area and filling your steering pump and then have someone else sit inside your car and start turning the staring wheel once its started and watch for the leak at the rate its leaking you should find it easy.

  3. well it could be an expensive fix, and most likely will.  Power steering is a hydraulic process, so you have high pressure lines, and after time when the lines begin to wear out it can cause a more rapid leak like the one you describe.  Also but less likely is your rack and pinion has gone out, but either one your looking at paying at least a couple hundred dollars, sorry man

  4. can't tell you on the price as you don't know where it's leaking, could be bad seals on the steering rack, hoses, or the power steering unit itself.
