Power steering fluid on my gmc yukon

my wheels won't turn and i think my power steering fluid was real low as i checked it. i tried to fill it and the bottle says 32 oz may not be enough however i barely was able to get a capeful in. how do i get more fluid to go down into the system? its a 97 gmc yukon. i read the manual as well. i turned on the car. warmed it up ect. still no luck!

  1. if you are adding it in the correct place and you cant fit anymore in then it sounds as if the system plenty full and your problem is something else


  2. low fluid is not the problem, the pump my be bad, check to see if there is something not letting the steering arm not move a branch or rock, look under the frontend realy good. hope this helps good luck!

  3. If your wheels won't turn, obviously you need to get the front-end steering components checked out.  

    If the power steering is not working, it will be extremely hard to turn the wheels, but they can be turned.  If this is the case, you almost certainly have a bad power steering pump.  If it was the gearbox, you would have had different symptoms.  Sounds like the pump shaft is broken.  Replacing these are not the easiest, so you'll have to be patient.
