  1. They are idiots.

You only need to check if the new PS can handle 24 pins(24 pin MB connectors are BW compliant with 20) and has the correct power connectors to your video card and other per(cd,hard drive, etc) most of the new ones handle all that so you should be fine.

  2. On top of everything else that has been said, make sure that the power factor correction(PFC) is over 80%.  Most good units run in the 83 to 85% range.

  3. That other guys right. They are idiots. With it being a HP. I would check and make sure it even has a PCI slot for your card though. A 450 watt ps will run that card . But make sure it is a good brand. Alot of these power supplies are a load of c**p. They lie about the true wattage. if it only costs 35 bucks brand new or something. It wont be any good. Antec is a good choice. Just google power supply reviews and check it out. atx is just the form factor. It just means its a full size computer. The new one will probably not bolt up. I have had to drill new holes. So the screws would line up. but cover everything up so you don't get metal shavings in your components. use a towel or something.and then blow it out with a can of air. I have uses self tapping screws before too. whatever it takes to get it mounted. before you start touch the case too discharge any static electricity. and don't stand on carpet when u work on it.

  4. Yes what the others said the people at hp are idiots aka Stupid. It should be just fine to upgrade the power supply.
