PowerMac G4 won't allow me to reinstall operating...

Question

I hear a strange sound when I get to a certain point, as if the disk drive or hard disk is really spinning like crazy. But I used a diagnostic disk check before I did the re-install and no hard-disk problems were detected. Could it be my disk drive itself?
