Question:

Powered wire cup brush on concrete to remove scale?

I poured a concrete slab a month ago and as it was curing, it developed flakey stuff on the surface (I believe it's called scale). I tried scrubbing it off with a 6" x 3" wire brush but it was exhausting and I would be there for days since the slab is 12' x 13'... I went to the hardware store and bought a "6 inch coarse knotted wire cup brush" for my Dewalt angle grinder. Will this do a nice job or make a mess? The 1' x 1' spot I cleaned up by hand looks good. I'm worried the power brush might leave scuff marks or something. The concrete is 5000 PSI with reinforcing fiber. By the way, I dampen the concrete before I scrub... Any concrete gurus please advise. Thanx!

  1. I would wait a year for the concrete to fully cure and then hose off the scale.

  2. Have you tried power washing?
