Question:

Powerpoint How to display points one at a time?

OK, I've tried using PowerPoint (2003) help as well as searches on the Internet, but I don't even know how to really describe what I want to do in a couple of words, so I am turning to Yahoo Answers. Basically it seems the default if you have several bullet points on a slide and you are presenting it they will all appear as soon as the slide is on the screen. However I've seen presentations where the presenter keeps clicking and additional points are added each time, rather than all of them appearing right away when the presenter advances to the slide, and I would like to do the same. Can it also work with images? Thanks

  1. Select your text block, right click on it, select Custom Animations. An animation palette should open on the right side. While the type is still selected, go to the top of the animation palette to the Add Effect pulldown. Select Entrance, then look for the type of effect you want. It will list about 6, but has "others" at the bottom - that will pop open a window with all possible effects.

Once you have added the effect, you can select to have it start on a click or with previous or after previous. If your type was in a master, the default setting will probably be each bullet on a click. If it isn't, double click on the item in the animation palette (or right click it and select effect options). In the window that opens up, go to text animation, then by 1st level paragraph (or whatever you want). After hitting okay, you will see that the item in the animation palette has a pull down indicator and you can then select each line to come in how you want it.

You can apply the same effect to pictures.

That's the basics to get you started. From there you can play with duration and automatic builds at specific times, etc. So try it out, then play around!
