  1. well they aren't getting arrested for download torrernts but misusing them. It software that you can use to search databases of stuff that people have up loaded then download that data. Alot of people use it to illegally download copyrighted music, movies, and OSs

  2. Bit torrents are perfectly legal. They are a way of downloading massive ammounts of information quickly and rather anonymously by bouncing it between hundreds of peers. What is illegal is using them to download movies and music.

  3. It's a peer-to-peer file type. What it does is one person has a file, creates a torrent, puts it up on the internet. You (or someone else downloads it) and they now have that file and help the other person give it to other people.

Typically it's illegal because it'll be music, movies, or hacked software. If you don't know what you're doing (which, no offense meant, it doesnt sound like you do) you should probably back off from it.

  4. People don't get arrested for downloading torrent files. It's the owners of the torrent sites who get lawsuits if they break any copyright laws. The beauty of torrents is that downloaders like us have anonymity.

.torrent is a filename extension used by BitTorrent. BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol used to distribute large amounts of data from over the Internet. The program itself is safe. The risks come from the files you want to download cos those files are uploaded by other users. BitTorrent is kinda like a mailman, it distributes the data to people but what the content of that data is is not its problem.

Go to www.bittorrent.com if you want bittorrent. There are a lot of torrent files on the Internet. Look them up. I'd recommend isohunt.com though. Haha. Have fun downloading!

    Hope this helps!
