  1. lol. depends...which island are u going too?? im a christian & i live on oahu.

lots of religions here. cathlic, christian, seventh day avntus, morman, ect. just like the mainland.

the only thing different i guess is...the fact that we are seperate from the other states & its warm all year long =P

&& the fact that EVERYONE ha a tan. well..almost every1..some ppl dont tan...they just get red...ewwww. haha.

  2. Beckee did a good job answering, but I'll add my 2 cents.  Generally, we are a fairly liberal state.  We were the first state to legalize abortions, for example.  Christianity is the largest religion, but there are quite a few Buddhists as well.  There a couple of Jewish temples, a Muslim congregation, lots of LDS (which may or may not be Christian, I'm not going there!) & most anything else you can think of.  There are a lot of evangelical churches, as well as most of the mainline denominations.  We all get along quite well, holding the oldest ongoing interfaith service west ot the Mississippi just before Thanksgiving each year.

I love it here, but kinda expensive doesn't even come close.  You give up a lot when it comes to standard of living & financial security when you decide to make Hawaii your home.

  3. i went to hawaii last year its the most beautiful place ive ever seen the food sucked to me and yes its really expensive no one talks about religion the Hawaiians kinda stick to there selves

  4. Politically, Hawaii tends to be very liberal. Socially, it can be quite conservative, but the liberal and conservative labels don't work terribly well in Hawaii for describing anybody's political position. The Democratic Party and labor unions do tend to be quite powerful here.

Many of the locals, especially, are Christian. The two largest denominations are probably Catholic and Congregational, or United Church of Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is more popular here than most places outside of Utah. There are also quite a lot of Buddhists and significant representations of Jewish and Bahai faith.

I'm from the Bible Belt (Alabama and Tennesee), and I perceive Hawaii as being less religious than where I grew up, but a friend of mine from the Boston area found it to be much more religious than Boston, New Hampshire, Ohio, or Japan, the places he'd lived.

I do like it here, but "kinda expensive" doesn't really cover it. I could get such a higher standard of living so quickly by simply moving to North America. Even though I have graduate degrees and work hard, I will probably never be able to buy a house. I took a pay cut of thousands of dollars to move here four years ago from the East Coast, and I have to pay much more money for just about everything.

If you just like the weather or the beach, that isn't enough to make the daily sacrifices. You have to love the people, and the cultures, and the food, because you don't have the time or the gas money to go to the beach.
