Prabhjot Singh to don the colours in the unsanctioned World Series Hockey
Mercurial Indian hockey forward, Prabhjot Singh, will don the colours in the maiden version of World Series Hockey (WSH), set to be played from December 17, 2011 to January 22, 2012, in different cities of India.
Prabhjot Singh started his international career back in 2001 and was famous for his fast and attacking style of play. He displayed brilliant and high-spirit games on many occasions, making difficult victories possible for his team.
Conversely, the career of the legendary forward-man is full of controversies. He has been in and out of the national squad after the Olympics Games, held in Athens, back in 2004.
His last assignment with the national team was the 2010 World Cup where India delivered the worst performance of its history, securing the eighth position in the tournament.
Prabhjot was not considered for any international tournament following the World Cup, which was an aching situation for him. A ray of hope emerged for the prolific player when he received a call to participate in the money-making World Series Hockey.
He is quite optimistic about showing impressive performances in the franchise-based league. Speaking to the media, he stated that the WSH is the first tournament where all the legendary players will play together.
He further stated that the youngsters will have many opportunities to display their abilities and skills in the league.
Moreover, the fresh blood will get enormous opportunities to hone their skills, while playing under the foreign trainers.
Making a comparison between WSH and PHL (Premier Hockey League), he stated, “The whole concept of PHL was good but WSH is much better. The concept of WSH is different from PHL and it will provide opportunity to the players. From what I see, it would stay
and change the face of Indian Hockey”.
The seasoned striker of his era was of the opinion that he is fully prepared for the lucrative league and worked hard on his fitness and stamina.
“Domestic tournaments like Nehru hockey are giving me good match practice before the WSH. I am eagerly waiting for it to begin”, he added.
In the closing remarks, he hoped for making a comeback into the national team, as well as helping the team in earning titles for the country.
