Question:

Practicalities of dual citizenship?

If you are the holder of two passports, from lets say Australia and the US, what do you do at entry/exit border crossings (when you want to make your dual citizenship actually work for you!)?

You don't want to get a tourist visa, and want to travel between and stay in either country without any restrictions or limitations.

  1. I hold citizenship in US and Russia, so when visiting, I would show my US passport when getting on a plane and Russian when getting off the plane (well, flying from US to Russia)...  and the other way around when going back...  :)

  2. You use that countries passport to enter that country. If returning to the US you use a US passport. The USCIS is fully aware that some people have dual citizenship and act accordingly.

  3. If you are a US citizen, you are required by law to present your US passport when entering the US (or, until June 1st, 2009, some other proof that you are a US citizen, if not entering by air), so that answers how to enter the US when you have dual citizenship.

As for the other country, I see no reason NOT to enter on that country's passport since you have it, regardless of whether or not you are required to do so by law like in the US.
