im 14 and i get told im a talented bowler who could go on too play for anyone i wanted too if i put my mind to it. im a right arm fast bowler about 55-60 mph.

i wanted to know how much i should be practicing my bowling. I only get 3 hours a week so im going to hire a net out. how many hours a week should i be practicing and what practice routines would help me improve my line and length?

  1. You have too keep practising until you can consistently get the ball pitching so it will hit the top of off stump. That is the advice Glenn McGrath always gives, so who can argue with that.

It was also vital that you practise your bouncer, so you can always have it as a surprise weapon. A good bouncer or two followed by a searing yorker has produced me many wickets during my time.

I am a 19 year old district cricket in Australia, open the bowling, pretty quick.

You must also work on a slower ball, it is a delivery that, when executed correctly and without the batsmen knowing, can bring you many wickets. Sometimes it is good to tell you mid off and mid on not to walk in as quickly as the batsmen tend to not time the ball as well and scoop it rather then hit through it.

And finally, try to get the ball to swing both ways, for outswing you want to have your index and middle finger across the seam, with the seam angelled towards first slip, and the opposite for inswing.

PRACTISE as much as you can, try to vary your pace, don't be predictable, and also you could try some upper body work to build up some strength..

DONT NEGLECT YOU SCHOOL WORK THOUGH!

Cricket is only a game and there are other things that are more important, so keep your grades up buddy!

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. look mate i had potential and maybe still do... iv never played for a club or been taught much beleive it or not but since was a kid men use ask me you should join club but i never botherd...if you see me play you certainly would say iv been taught or iv trained but havent iv learnt all buy watching mostly and practising... i hope you succeed in you ambition...il recommend 3 hours a week is enough for both sets...keep pratising and never give up even if you cant do a certain technique etc... you cant be good and successful without hard work...btw to practise your length and line draw some wickets ona wall or something and try differnt areas that you want to pitch it on and how you wnat to swing it plus try slower delievries and dont just be a fast bowler be a clever one...mix your techniques and speed plus try work hard with bowling yorkers they very useful as you will know and as for batting just always watch the bowl as much as you can and always make sure you cover your wickets neway if want to know more just email me and will try and help...
